Rep. Lightner encourages local businesses hurt by pandemic to apply for relief
RELEASE|March 2, 2022

Grants available through program Lightner helped create

State Rep. Sarah Lightner today encouraged business owners throughout Jackson, Eaton and Lenawee counties to apply for an afflicted business relief program she helped pass into law.

Lightner and the Legislature approved a bipartisan plan last December to create a $409 million relief program for businesses that have struggled the most because of the pandemic. A business’s property taxes, unemployment insurance taxes, license and inspection fees, and decline in sales will factor into the grant amount.

“So many businesses in our communities have been struggling to survive since the forced shutdowns at the beginning of the pandemic,” said Lightner, of Springport. “We created this program to help these small businesses recover, so they can serve our communities and employ local people for many years to come.”

The application for the program will be open until March 31. Local business owners can visit michigan.gov/abr to learn more and apply.
