Rep. Kahle announces winner of ‘There Ought To Be A Law’ contest for Lenawee County 4th graders
RELEASE|November 20, 2020

Rep. Bronna Kahle today announced the winner of a contest designed to help Lenawee County 4th graders learn about and participate in state government.

A class from Addison Elementary School submitted the winning proposal, suggesting a new law to improve safety on school buses for children across Michigan. The proposal would require seat belt use for students on buses.

“The incredible response to this contest once again proves Lenawee County students are bright, energetic and full of good ideas to improve our community,” said Kahle, of Adrian. “Our students want to be a positive influence on the lives of their families, friends and neighbors.”

The classroom with the winning proposal is taught by Kelly Christensen. Students said their proposal would improve safety in case of an accident, keep students in their seats and reduce distractions for bus drivers.

Kahle plans to draft the proposal for consideration in the Michigan House of Representatives after the new legislative term begins in January.

“I am proud of each and every classroom that participated in this contest across Lenawee County,” Kahle said. “Students are learning how to become involved in their communities, and inspire others to do the same.”
