LANSING, Mich. — Following the introduction of her resolution to protect parental rights and uphold local control in Michigan classrooms, State Representative Gina Johnsen (R-Portland) today announced a change in venue and schedule for the public hearing on the proposed Michigan Health Education Standards Framework.
Due to the high level of public interest and the importance of the matter, the hearing has been elevated to the full House Oversight Committee. It will now be held on Tuesday, October 28 at 9:00 a.m. in the House Appropriations Room, 352 State Capitol Building.
Representative Johnsen will testify before the committee in support of her resolution, which calls on the Michigan Department of Education and the State Board of Education to reject the proposed Health Education Standards Framework. The proposal embeds ideological content into required instruction, raising serious concerns about transparency, legality, and parental choice.
Members of the State Board of Education have also been invited to testify before the committee regarding the development and intent of the proposed framework.
“This issue has been elevated to the highest level of legislative oversight because it directly impacts the rights of parents and the integrity of education in Michigan,” said Johnsen. “The people of Michigan deserve to be heard, and this full committee hearing will ensure their voices are.”
“This change underscores how serious this issue is,” Johnsen added. “The Legislature is watching, parents are watching, and we will continue to defend the right of families, not bureaucrats, to guide the moral and educational upbringing of their children.”
