Rep. Borton presents state tribute to retiring Michigan State Police canine

State Rep. Ken Borton , R-Gaylord, this week was proud to present Loki, a retiring Michigan State Police canine, with a state tribute commemorating his service to Michigan. The tribute also recognized the work of Loki’s handler, Trooper Adam Whited.

“The work that Loki has done during his 982 calls, including locating missing seniors and children, detecting narcotics, and tracking innumerable suspects, has surely been felt by the entire community,” Borton wrote in the tribute. “In the eight years since Loki joined the Michigan State Police (MSP), his training, demeanor, performance, and obedience have made Houghton Lake a safer place to live, work, and raise a family. We also want to make sure we thank Trooper Whited for the dedication, patience, and care he has shown Loki, who is surely one of the most important and unsung heroes of the Michigan State Police family.”

Rep. Borton welcomes Lake City officials to committee testimony

State Rep. Ken Borton (R-Gaylord) today welcomed Lake City Mayor Craig Ardis to join him in providing testimony to the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Labor and Economic Opportunity. The testimony was in support of a $10 million appropriations request focused on transportation and infrastructure needs along the M-66/M-55 highway corridor. Ardis was joined by Lake City Council Member/Interim City Manager Pat Smith.

“Our entire Northern Michigan community is breathing a collective sigh of relief tonight after President Trump announced he was sending this funding our way,” said Borton, R-Gaylord. “We couldn’t be more grateful to the President and his team for delivering on relief dollars we so desperately need. Our communities banded together and got through the storms last winter, but just by the skin of our teeth. These federal dollars will finally take us from ‘just getting by’ to ‘getting back to normal.’”

Rep. Borton invites Ted Nugent to present testimony at joint committee hearing on DNR abuses

Michigan guitarist and avid sportsman Ted Nugent will testify on Wednesday at a joint committee hearing of the Natural Resources & Tourism Committee, chaired by Rep. David Martin (R-Davison), the Agriculture and Rural Development and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Ken Borton (R-Gaylord), and the Weaponization of State Government Oversight Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Angela Rigas (R-Caledonia). The three committees will hear testimony from Nugent regarding accountability for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and a presentation on recent abuses.
