House Republican Leader Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, on Tuesday issued the following statement after the House Elections Committee passed House Bill 4156, legislation that would join Michigan to the National Popular Vote Compact and undermine the state’s role as a key swing state:

“House Democrats are actively working to diminish Michigan’s influence in presidential elections. Instead of working across the aisle to help make Michigan a more attractive place to live and work, Democrats are pushing the National Popular Vote Compact that would further undermine Michiganders and let coastal elites take our voices away. Just days after creating a partisan commission because they’re too afraid of making tough decisions and crafting real solutions on their own, Democrats have decided to spend their time eliminating even more of Michigan’s advantages.”
